Scottish Lowland Longsword – Section B, No.2
The Scottish Lowland longsword pattern was directly influenced by the German and Swiss armouries of the 16th century. Provenance placed on the original by the National Museum of Scotland is 1500 AD.
The pattern adopted by Scottish Lowland Men-at-Arms bears a striking resemblance to German and Swiss European swords of the 16th century.
German bladesmiths of Solingen frequently remarked on the preference of the Scots when ordering sword blades for both Highland and Lowland sword cutlers: the requirement for broad blades was singular to that nation.
